Malin Lewis grew up in Skye where he started learning the pipes at the age of 8. Very quickly his interest in Scottish music grew and he began playing the fiddle as well as bellows pipes. Malin’s main interest lies in the instrument itself and as such he began making his own smallpipes at the age of 14.
He currently studies piping on the degree course at the Royal Conservatoire in Glasgow, with a particular interest in piobaireachd and older pipe music. Most recently, Malin has been working with Donald Lindsay in making a wooden version of his Lindsay system chanter. Malin is a very enthusiastic teacher and enjoys teaching all levels and ages. He aims to create a relaxed but productive atmosphere in his classes, aiming to ensure that everyone can get something from them.
