Hailling from South Uist, Alana MacInnes is a piper and whistle player. She plays the highland pipes as well as the smallpipes. Alana completed an HNC in traditional music at Lews Castle College, Benbecula under the guidance of Anna-Wendy Stevenson and Iain MacDonald. Following this she then went on to acquire a Gàidhlig and Music degree at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, Scotland’s unique Gàidhlig college.
Alana is a regular teacher at various fèisean and is new to Scots Music Group. She is currently playing with Scottish trio Canach with mostly self-penned tunes and songs. Together the trio have a range of performances under their belt and have supported many of Scotland’s leading musicians including the Simon Bradley Trio, Mairearad Green & Anna Massie and Kathleen MacInnes & Fiona Hunter. The trio have recently released a self titled EP. In 2014, Alana appeared at the 42nd Willie Clancy Summer School in Miltown Malbay, Co. Clare, Ireland.
