WORKSHOP FAQs

How do I buy a workshop ticket though the website?

  • If you are new to Scots Music Group – welcome! Before buying a ticket we ask you to signUP through our wesbite so that we know who’s coming to the workshop. We then have your details to send you confirmation of your booking, email you workshop details in advance and contact you in the unlikely event that the workshop is cancelled. Please signUP here  Once you have registered please follow the details below.
  • If you have registered your details with Scots Music Group please click on Book Now or Book Song Workshop to signIN. From your Dasboard, New booking will open a list of our classes with Workshops at the top of the list.

Can I buy more than one ticket at a time online?

Our ticket sales are set up to allow one ticket purchase per person so that we know the names of all of the participants. This also ensures that we have your contact information in case we have to cancel the workshop at short notice.

Do I have to buy my ticket online?

The Scots Music Group office is staffed part-time so we encourage purchasing tickets online for participants convenience. If however you can’t buy through the website please contact the office. You will be asked to pay for your ticket in advance by cash, cheque or by bank transfer. There is no card machine in the office and tickets cannot be reserved for payment on the day.

Do I need SMG membership?

The main benefit of SMG membership is discount it gives on fees for our classes. There is however no membership discount for workshop tickets.

Do I need to have a printed ticket to gain entry?

No you don’t. We will have your name on the door.

What do I need to bring to the workshop?

  • a refillable water bottle
  • a packed lunch (optional)
  • a recording device

I have additional requirements. How do I let you know?

Please contact the Scots Music Group office to let them know about any special requirements you may have.  You can contact the office by telephone 0131 555 7668 and by email admin@scotsmusic.org or pop into the office to see them by special arrangement, due to their part time hours.

Please give the office as much notice as you can – thank you.

Can I have refund?

Please get in touch with the Scots Music Group office if you have bought a ticket but are unable to attend. If the workshop has sold out and we have a waiting list for tickets we may be able to sell your ticket on your behalf and refund you.

Otherwise workshops run according to demand and fees are non-refundable. If that would lead to exceptional hardship for you, then please do get in touch with the office to explain your particular circumstances, which will be treated confidentially.

Song workshop with Jimmy Hutchison

Saturday 26th October 2019 10.30am-3.30pm at The Centre at Christ Church, Holy Corner, Edinburgh

Jimmy Hutchison will take you on a guided tour through Scottish traditional song, from the Bothy Ballads of the north-east of Scotland, love songs, humorous songs to the great Border Ballads. Much of Jimmy’s repertoire was learned directly from the renowned source singers such as Jeannie Robertson, Jimmy MacBeath, Davie Stewart and the Stewarts of Blair.

EXPLORING YOUR SOUND: How to get the best out of your voice

Christine is well known for her fun and informative work and lively community workshops. Join us for a day exploring your voice. You will explore relaxation and breath as well as your body as an instrument. Working into sound and articulation you will finish the day in simple part songs. Please wear loose clothing.

Sheena Wellington Song Workshop – James Hogg – The Forest Minstrel

Sheena Wellington leads a workshop considering the life and work of James Hogg, shepherd, autodidact, collector, songwriter, groundbreaking author and occasional scandaliser of polite society.  With the aid of his songs, written and collected, and his life story, Sheena will explore Hogg’s importance in Scotland’s culture.

Dr Margaret Bennett leads a workshop day of traditions, stories and songs surrounding the turn of the season on Hallows’ Eve. Touching on traditions of Samhainn, All Saints and Martinmas, Margaret will look at the themes they draw out and associated songs and stories. Bring your own family Hallowe’en or hairst traditions along to share.
