Sam Gillespie
SMG Tutor
Sam Gillespie is a whistle and wooden flute player, guitarist, singer and songwriter from Northumberland. He became involved with the vibrant Edinburgh folk scene in 2008 and it was here that he began following his dream of playing whistle and flute. Years of intensive study and practice ensued, combined with tuition from Gordon Turnbull and other renowned tutors involved with Edinburgh FluteFling.
Now Sam plays at home and abroad with ‘The Greater Spotted Ceilidh Band’, ‘Wayward Jane’ and recently formed trio ‘An Conasg’ and is currently running several regular music sessions in Edinburgh. As well as Scottish, Irish and English music he is inspired by Breton, Greek and Middle Eastern Traditions. When not playing whistle and flute he also performs and records as a singer-songwriter both solo and with ‘The Brothers Gillespie’. He loves sharing music and teaching it to others and believes anyone can make great progress with dedication and practice.
