Kirstie McLanaghan
SMG Tutor
Kirstie is passionate about traditional Scottish fiddle music and the sense of community that it brings. She has been teaching on a full time basis for 10 years and is extremely active in her local musical community. Her teaching style is suited to adult learning as it is detailed, technique led, fun and inspiring. In 2020 she graduated with a first class honours degree in Applied Music from the University of the Highland & Islands, and during her last 2 years of study her focus was on music pedagogy and performance.
Kirstie plays with Da Hooley Ceilidh band, a busy and long established ceilidh band that was born 25 years ago from SMG students. Her latest project, alongside Claire Gullan, is the creation of The
TAM Sessions (Tunes: Art: Make), a mental wellness project that combines music and crafting, with a focus on community and joy.
When Kirstie isn’t teaching or playing fiddle she can usually be found behind a sewing machine or with knitting needles in her hands!
