Keith Dickson

SMG Tutor

Born in South Lanarkshire, Keith began playing accordion at the age of 8 and was awarded the LBCA Performer Diploma in 1988. He has featured on several BBC radio broadcasts and CD recordings as a member of various Scottish Dance Bands and has travelled extensively, including visits to Norway, Spain and The Netherlands, to perform at Scottish Dance events. As Musical Director of the youth group KODA, Keith continues to promote Scottish music around Europe with performances in France, Germany, Ireland and the Czech Republic – as well as producing four popular KODA CD recordings.

Keith was appointed as Accordion Examiner in 2004 at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (now the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland) for the Scottish Traditional Music Graded Exams. He has now taught accordion and keyboard skills for more than 30 years and currently enjoys teaching a wide range of projects including a “P5 Accordion Group” in Wallace Hall Primary School, Thornhill, a “Reels Band” consisting of musicians from The Royal Regimental Band of Scotland as well as the Piano Accordion “Improvers” Class for the Scots Music Group. Keith recently composed the “Pentlands Suite” – a collection of pieces based on a popular range of hills south of Edinburgh – where he enjoys walking, exploring and relaxing.
