John comes from a family of pipers, and although starting on the highland pipes from a young age, he has now been paying the smallpipes for over 10 years.

Inspired by the work and music of Hamish Moore and Allan MacDonald, and under the tutelage of Fin Moore, John is a regular at festivals, ceremonies, sessions and other events around Scotland, and also teaches smallpipes to private students.  The once and future role of the pipes in a thriving folk-culture and in thriving communities is John’s main interest.
