John is from a family of four generations of pipers and was initially taught highland pipes by his grandfather. In the last couple of years John has begun teaching privately himself. He has been composing since he was 16 and has always been drawn to tunes less commonly played whether they be new or old. John has been performing professionally for the last 10 years and took an interest in smallpipes when visiting the School of Scots Music and Dance in Barga on the way to a wedding in Milan. Away from piping, John coaches rugby and enjoys cooking Indian cuisine.
