Isla Ratcliff

SMG Tutor

Isla Ratcliff is a fiddle player, singer, composer and fiddle/violin teacher, originally from Edinburgh and now based in Glasgow.
 
She has a background in classical violin and piano, having learned through the Suzuki method age 5-11 and then at the City of Edinburgh Music School age 12-17. She holds a BA Music degree from Oxford University, an MMus Scottish Music degree from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, and a DipABRSM Teaching Diploma with Distinction.
 
 
Isla has performed at Celtic Connections, Cambridge Folk Festival, Sidmouth FolkWeek and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Her compositions include fiddle tunes, ensemble arrangements, theatre scores, short film scores and political songs. Isla’s work is underpinned by her interests in cultural politics, the environment, spoken word, theatre, and music’s positive impact on our wellbeing. She plays with Stramash Cèilidh Band. When she is not playing music, Isla enjoys hillwalking, cycling, cross-country skiing and learning languages.
