Eryn Rae
SMG Tutor
Hailing from the Scottish Borders, Eryn started playing the fiddle at the age of 7 under the tuition of renowned Shetland fiddler, Catriona Macdonald. Combining influences from the North East of Scotland, Shetland, Ireland and Scandinavia, Eryn possesses a traditional yet distinct sound.
Since, Eryn has toured both nationally and further afield with various lineups, including her own band ‘Northern Company’ and Kathryn Tickell’s ‘Superfolkus’. As well as working in ensembles, Eryn enjoys playing solo and has partaken in lots of prestigious competitions, winning titles such as the ‘Young Burnsian of the Year’ which saw her performing alongside the likes of Dougie MacLean and Siobhan Miller at the Westsound Burns Supper. In the same year, she was placed as one of four finalists in the 2017 BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Awards.
Now based in Glasgow, Eryn is currently studying on the Traditional Music course at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. This is immersing her in Glasgow’s rich music culture and allowing her to connect with and learn from many well-established musicians on the trad scene and other genres.
