Christine Kydd

Award -winning singer Christine has a wealth of experience in working with groups. A singer since the age of 11, she studied Voice at Central School of Speech and Drama and has been involved over many years as a professional folk singer. A highly experienced tutor, Christine (over almost twenty years) has developed Community Singing groups in both urban and rural settings throughout Scotland, with local singers, starting off as a “Singing for Fun with Christine Kydd” course, and over time empowering the group to constitute, seek funding and design and run their own project, enabling them to access the workshop skills of a range of professional singers. Groups have included Angus Folk, Breakish Singers, Sangschule (with Ewan McVicar and Susan Thores) and Sangstream (the first, brainchild of Stan Reeves, ALP). The latest of these projects is JustSinginBirnam, now in it’s sixth year, where she continues as Musical Director.

Christine is a “harmony magpie”, and loves to merge ideas from other traditions with the singing of Scots and contemporary song. As a concert performer she has worked in many bands, notably including Russell and Kydd, Miro, Chantan, Calluna, and currently in L-Fish and Sinsheen, where her skills both as solo singer and harmony singer are sought. She has toured extensively in the UK, Europe, North America and Russia. Teaching credits include Guildford School of Acting, Queen Margaret College and National Centre for Excellence in Traditional Music where she teaches Scots and Contemporary song. Other credits include theatre: Jock Tamsons Bairns (Communicado), A Greater Tomorrow (Dundee Rep), numerous radio performance and interview credits, and television, including the recent “Scotland’s Music” (BBC TV) presented by Phil Cunningham.
