SAC appeal - 15th October 2008

The Scots Music Group heard today that their appeal on the SAC funding decision has been unsuccessful.

We are now starting to focus on finding other sources of funding to support the work we do. Our current funding runs to the end of March 2009

SAC have announced ‘new support’ for the Scots language and voluntary traditional arts sectors.

See http://www.scottisharts.org.uk/1/artsinscotland/crossartformfeatures/newsupportforscotsandtradarts.aspx

Along with SMG, the Traditional Music and Song Association (TMSA), Scottish Traditions of Dance Trust (STDT) and Voluntary Arts Scotland (VAS)have been “invited to apply for up to £30,000 in organisational development funding in order to help them to further current plans and adjust to a different funding relationship”. This sounds like one-off funding. We’re now in the process of arranging another meeting with SAC to progress this.

Particularly in the current financial circumstances it’s going to be quite a challenge to replace the £60,000 or so pa funding we have had in the past from SAC.

SMG had a follow up meeting with SAC today to clarify their ‘invitation’ as above. We’ll now be arranging another meeting with those in SAC responsible for the organisational development funding strand. Watch this space (but don’t hold your breath in the meantime!)

And of course we’re busy looking at alternative funding sources – all offers welcome!
