Protest song

Anne Renshaw, a member of Linten Adie, our daytime song class has written a musical protest. Her song, The Slender Tree, won first prize with the audience vote in the Edinburgh Folk Club’s song writing competition

Many thanks to all those who voted for me. Without all the support I’ve had from SMG through Linten Adie, Cafe Ceilidh and the Big Seat I wouldn’t have been up on that stage in the first place. Particular thanks to our fantastic Linten Adie tutor Scott Murray who has been a constant source of encouragement for my songwriting. Let’s hope the slender tree can continue to flourish.

Yes, you’ve managed to sum up some of current governmental policy to so much. Just like the Olympics, isn’t it ? If you’re good – no, if you’re excellent – you’ll get the works. But it’s not new money, it’s coming from somewhere else. As the government minister said during the Games “We don’t fund mediocrity”, which is a great shame, because so many of us are in fact mediocre !

Many congratulations to Anne for winning the number 1 slot in the audience voting at Edinburgh Folk Club’s Annual Songwriting Competition on 11th June.
She was interviewed afterwards for the Garden Sessions which will be broadcast tonight (Thursday 12th)
