Attending Scots Music Group fiddle classes has enabled me to raise my standard of playing such that I now play in a small band which engages with the local community and plays at sheltered housing complexes and nursing homes (for free). Band members have also encoraged and helped young school children fund-raise for the Vine Trust—a chartity helping street children in Peru—by performing with them at the Farmer’s Market, at Murrayfield Rugby Club and performing at other events, raising over £10,000.
It was attending the Scots Music Group classes, enjoying the friendly atmosphere and the sense of camaraderie that helped me cope with a serious auto-immune disease which is presently in remission. I owe such a lot to SMG‘s work as do many others including Lothian Health Board! For retired folk, it is a life line, but it engages across the whole community. It is essential that SMG‘s funding support and good work continues. I press the Scottish Arts Council to restore its grant.
