Term Dates 2008/09
SMG classes run for three terms each session. The Autumn Term is 12 weeks from September to December; the Spring Term is 10 weeks from January to March/April, and the Summer term is 6 weeks, starting after the Easter break. There is generally a stramash at the end of the first 2 terms, and an End of Year Concert.
A provisional list of term dates is below. Once venues have confirmed any dates that are unavailable (for school parents’ consultation evenings for example) we will update each class with the dates for that term. Occasionally school-based classes cannot run as the school is holding Parents’ Consultations. These evenings are publicised well in advance and term lengths are not affected. If classes have to be cancelled at short notice (eg tutor sickness) we cannot contact every class member and you may wish to set up an email/phone tree in your class. If classes are cancelled for any other reason (eg weather or strikes) the website should be kept up to date. School-based classes do not run if Edinburgh schools are closed. Generally, local radio announces information on school closure.
We do our best to inform students of any changes to venues/dates, through our newsletter, notices on the class noticeboards, and announcements at classes themselves. However sometimes changes outwith our control can happen at the last minute. Students are advised to check the website (which is kept up to date with information) particularly if they have missed classes for any reason.
