deciding your level

The levels shown with class descriptions refer to the level of experience you have in playing your chosen instrument. They are meant as a guide only. If you join a class and find it is not at the level you expected, it is usually very easy to change to a class that is faster or slower. All we ask is that you inform the tutor of the class you are leaving, and also inform Sheila in the office (email sheila@scotsmusic.org or telephone 0131 555 7668 Monday to Thursday 10am-4pm)

Most of our single instrument classes run on the same night of the week to make it easy for students to switch to a class at a different level.

We have a much wider range of fiddle classes available. For information on all the different levels for fiddle, click here

absolute beginner

For those who are completely new to playing an instrument, singing or dancing. There will be a limited number of spaces in classes at this level.

improving beginner

For those with 1–2 years playing experience or who have recently returned to playing after a break.

intermediate

For those who have been learning for around 3 years and can learn by ear, and play tunes comfortably.

advanced

For players who can play tunes up to speed and can learn by ear.

Still unsure which level of class to join? Contact the office for more information (or phone 0131 555 7668). We can usually arrange for you to try out a class, if you are unsure if it will be pitched at the right level for you.
