Have a dedication made for you from the plinth top!

In the small hours of Sunday 13th September, Ros Gasson, the Scots Music Group’s Development Worker, will be on the ‘One and Other’ plinth in Trafalgar Square with her fiddle. ‘One & Other’ is a live artwork by sculptor Antony Gormley. 2,400 participants representing every region of the UK each spend an hour on the 4th plinth in Trafalgar Square. The project will run for 100 days and nights.

‘One and Other’ are recording everyone who is on the plinth – their recordings are streamed live on their website, 24 hours a day. They’ll be keeping their recordings on their website to create a permanent archive. They also plan to use them to make films, television programmes and books, and to use them for advertising and publicity.

Would you like to be a part of this arts project, and have a set of tunes dedicated to someone from the plinth top? Ros is inviting SMG members to pledge a donation to SMG in return for a mention during her hour on the plinth.

To pledge a donation

All you need to do is to log into the website, and write in the comments box at the bottom of this page. Tell us who you’d like a set of tunes to be dedicated to, and how much you’d like to donate. Ros will make some of the dedications during her slot on the plinth. Don’t donate any money at this point! We’ll contact those who have been successful, after the closing date

Terms and conditions:

  • When you make your pledge, details of your pledge, and your full name, will appear on this page
  • Pledges will be accepted up until midnight on Sunday 6th September
  • Successful participants will be notified by email on Monday 7th September
  • The amount pledged must be donated to SMG by mid-day on Thursday 9th September for the requested dedication to be made on the plinth

What a great idea Ros, we are sure you will have a lot of fun on the plinth.

Being former members of The Scots Music Group we would like to donate £20 to help your wonderful work carry on. We have sent your message to other friends in Scotland and hope there will be some result.

We would be very pleased if you could mention Moira Banks who lost her husband last week and say that we are thinking of her and her daughter Allison in Troon.

Hugh Somerville - 7 September 2009, 00:17

Ros I know I’m 10 minutes late but I hope I can add another £10 for you to wish Vaila Somerville a very special Happy Day on the 13th. Vaila is named after the island in Shetland so I guess a wee Shetland tune would be great. Hope I’m just in time – thanks.
