Classes for performance

Song - Linten Adie 10.30am

We work on a wide variety of (mainly) Scots songs in a lively and sociable group. The group learns songs by ear and performs at occasional community events.

Tuesday at 10.30am - 12.30 St Bride's Centre

tutor: Scott Murray - terms: autumn, spring, summer

Song - Guitar Accompaniment and Interpretation 7pm

You will focus on finding (preferably Scots) songs you would like to perform, and work towards being able to sing them, and accompany them, with confidence and conviction. Suitable for folk who can play C, Am, F and G, or G, Em, C and D.

Mixed Instrument - Intermediate 10am

This class will work on arranging sets of tunes which are first learnt by ear (music and recordings provided). There will be opportunities to explore various aspects of arrangement and to perform in the community. Suitable for players of intermediate level and above

Pipes - Highland Pipes 7.30pm

The class will work on improving embellishments, timing, technique, learning new tunes and working together as a pipe band. We will also concentrate on blowing pipes steadily, bagpipe maintenance and improving starts and finishes when playing pipes. This class is suitable for students who have been playing bagpipes for a year or more, who can already play a few tunes.

Mixed Instrument - Ceilidh Caleerie Ceilidh Band 7pm

The Scots Music Group’s ceilidh band will work on their current repertoire, add some new sets and play for dancing! New folk and instruments are particularly welcome, and there will be time in class for new recruits to work at their own pace. We will also be looking at rhythms, harmonies, accompaniments and working on the skills needed to play together as a band. There will be many opportunities to play for dancing at community events.

Mixed Instrument - Slow Session 7pm

Suitable for any instrument. Build sets of tunes and learn to play with others in the classroom and afterwards in an open pub session

Fiddle - String Circle 7pm

This class is a fun place to try some new things…

Working at your own pace, we’ll be focusing on producing better tone, and developing relaxed playing with a strong sense of rhythm, rather than learning tunes. Most of the tunes we do learn iwilll be common session tunes. The class can help with individual issues that participants might need to address.

Suitable for fiddle players for any level from improving beginners onwards.

Suitable for advanced players who can pick up tunes rapidly either by ear or from written music.
