Mixed Instrument - Beginner (daytime)

Learn to play music in arrangements with other people. Embrace your creativity and enjoy the diversity to be discovered in the beginners mixed instrument group as we create our own arrangements of a variety of traditional tunes together. All instruments (and muscians!) welcome. For people who have been playing for a year or more.

Mixed Instrument (daytime) - Morning Mixed

This class will work on arranging sets of tunes which are first learnt by ear (music and recordings provided). There will be opportunities to explore various aspects of arrangement and to perform in the community. Suitable for players of intermediate level and above

Mixed Instrument - Advanced

This class will focus on arranging sets of tunes together. We will work at a fast pace.

Suitable for advanced players who can pick up tunes rapidly either by ear or from written music.

Mixed Instrument - Ceilidh Caleerie Ceilidh Band

The Scots Music Group’s ceilidh band will work on their current repertoire, add some new sets and play for dancing! New folk and instruments are particularly welcome. After enrolment tunes can be downloaded from the link at the foot of this page, or call the office. There will be opportunities through the term for the class to play for the dancers in the ceilidh dance class. Suitable for players of intermediate level and above

Mixed Instrument - Slow Session

Suitable for any instrument. Build sets of tunes and learn to play with others in the classroom and afterwards in an open pub session at Bennets Bar

Mixed Instrument - Mandolin & Guitar Orchestra

Take part in playing multi-part arrangements. A varied repertoire will be looked at, with a view to preparing for performances. To join this class, you should be able to read music or tablature with confidence

Your tutor, Nigel Gatherer, has many years experience of teaching mandolin at all levels, and is happy to answer any questions you may have. Email Nigel
