Find out more about the Scots Music Group’s classes in Edinburgh

Scots Music Group classes are open to anyone aged 18+.

If you have any questions about our classes or enrolling, please call the SMG office 0131 555 7668 . We have limited volunteer admin support, so leave a message if there is no one available to answer your call, and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can. Cost of classes This can be found with the details of each class. The cost of each class varies with the term length.

Membership Click here to find out about membership of Scots Music Group. You do not need to be an SMG Member to enrol in an SMG class, buy a book or attend an event, but SMG membership will give you a discount on Scots Music Group classes, workshops, events and shop items as well as other benefits.

Instruments For all instrumental classes you will need to bring an instrument with you.

When you can start All absolute beginner’s classes start in the Autum term. Classes offered in the Spring and Summer term are a continuation of the Autumn term programme. It’s usually possible for new students to join a class at the start of any term. Where it’s not possible for new students to join an individual class, this will be clearly marked on the website before the start of each term.

Term Dates:
Autumn Term: 12 weeks from September – December
Spring Term: 10 weeks from January – March
Summer term: 6 weeks from April – May

Once venues have confirmed any dates that are unavailable (for school parents’ consultation evenings for example) we will update the term dates page (link above) on our website with info, and inform any classes that are affected. If classes are cancelled for any other reason the website will be kept up to date. School-based classes do not run on days Edinburgh schools are closed.

We aim to use venues for our classes that are as accessible as possible. If you have any problems gaining access to one of our venues, please let us know, and we will do our best to sort it out.
